In 2006, actor Bhamini Oza came to see a play during the Prithvi theatre festival in which Pratik Gandhi was performing. She saw the play, he saw her. And, it was love at first sight for him.
Four years later they married in 2010. Fifteen years later they are still our choice for the couple perfect for a Valentine’s Day interview. Why?
Even today, when you see Pratik and Bhamini in their social media photos or at home or public events, their laced-with-masti love for each other is palpable. Their ‘together vibe’ reiterates that their love is only growing with time. Pratik and Bhamini will now be seen onscreen together in the upcoming web series, Gandhi. Pratik will play Mahatma Gandhi, and Bhamini will play his wife, Kasturba Gandhi. Coming up next week is Pratik’s Dhoom Dhaam.
So, what better day than Valentine’s Day to get a peek into their plans for the day of love? In a candid conversation with The Free Press Journal, the husband-wife reveals it all.
Excerpts from the interview:
What is your definition of romance?
Pratik: I am not sure if there is a single definition of romance, it is there in many small things.
Bhamini: Romance is something that one can feel in the air. It is that forever adorable and happy feeling that gives you everlasting joy.
Can you elaborate?
Pratik: If you wait for your partner patiently for her to turn up, that's romance. If you give each other freedom to be himself/herself that's also romance.
How have you been celebrating Valentine’s Day all these years?
Pratik: I would have loved to spend more Valentine’s Day with Bhamini, but most of the time I have been away on that day. Therefore, had to miss being with her. But, I treasure the time when we were together on Valentine’s Day.
Bhamini: We tried to celebrate a few Valentine’s Day by gifting roses and 5-star chocolates.
What if one of you were not in town?
Bhamini: If either of us was out of Bombay for our work, we would send each other a note on the office email ID.
What is the gift you gave Bahmini on your first Valentine’s Day together?
Pratik: Since I didn’t know what she would like, I gifted her a sari. Don’t ask me why I thought the sari would be the ideal choice. Incidentally, that was the biggest gift I had given her till then.
And after that?
Pratik: We went out for dinner. That’s it.
Do you two still go on dates?
Pratik: Yes, we go on dates even after marriage... She will tell you otherwise (laughs).
Bhamini: We definitely look forward to dating over and over again. We like to laugh over our old dating day goof-ups. We officially remind each other, ‘Let's get romantic!’
What do you do to keep the romance alive?
Pratik: We fight with each other. I collect jokes which I share with her. I find my jokes very funny but she finds them bad. I guess that helps us.
Who likes to surprise the other -- whether it is a birthday party by bringing friends over or gifting each other a destination holiday?
Pratik: Both of us try but fail (grins).
Do you plan to celebrate Valentine's Day this year?
Pratik & Bhamini: Hopefully, yes.
Any message for other lovers?
Pratik: Valentine's Day in a year is a reminder for the other 364 days. You must keep loving each other more. In fact, I think one should celebrate each of the 365 days as a Valentine's Day.
Bhamini: Dear lovers, love each other throughout the year. Don't wait for Valentine's Day. (Afterthought): Make an exception for 2025. It's a special year – it’s time to go watch Dhoom Dhaam.
What are your plans for Valentine’s Day this year?
Pratik: I will be busy promoting my new movie Dhoom Dhaam, which releases on Netflix on February 14. Apart from that, there are no other plans as yet.
Bhamini: Hopefully, yes.
