A 19-year-old man died, and a 49-year-old auto rickshaw driver suffered injuries after the auto rickshaw overturned in Dombivli. The deceased has been identified as Yash Dilip Vaste, 19, a chef at a hotel who lived with his family members in Sajan Smriti Building in Dombivli West. The driver has been identified as Kiran Bingi, 49, a driver by profession, also a resident of the same building.
According to the police, on January 3, the accused and the deceased, after finishing their dinner at night, left their homes. Bingi took his auto rickshaw while Vaste sat in the rear seat. Both were traveling from Dombivli towards Surai Gaon near the creek to relax. As they reached a bridge, they met with an accident.
Bingi, while driving recklessly, overturned the auto rickshaw on the bridge road, causing serious injuries to Vaste. A bystander rushed to the spot and alerted the local police. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where Vaste's condition was critical. The doctor referred him to KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where he was declared dead on January 1 during treatment.
Santosh Shinde, Police Sub Inspector from Narpoli Police Station, said, "We have registered a case against the driver after receiving a medical report. During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Bingi, a driver, was driving at high speed without following road safety norms, which caused the accident. Initially, we lodged an accidental death report, which has now been turned into an FIR."
