The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal debris dumping. The civic body has been imposing a fine of Rs 30,000 on a vehicle caught disposing of debris near the creek in Airoli Sector 10. Recently a dumper was caught dumping debris into the Aioli creek.

The encroachment and anti Debris flying squad zone 2, had caught the vehicle engaged in the illegal activity.  Corporation not only seized the vehicle but also levied the fine of Rs 30,000 on the owner. Municipal authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards illegal dumping. “The unauthorized disposal of debris is not just an eyesore but also a serious environmental hazard. Such activities will not be tolerated, and strict actions will continue against those found guilty,” said an NMMC official.

Even in January a similar action was undertaken upon two dumpers found transporting debris. The action was taken after a complaint was received on social media, alerting that debris was being dumped near the Ghansoli Women’s Empowerment Centre. Upon receiving the complaint, a flying squad was immediately assigned to visit the location and  asked to take appropriate action.

“Navi Mumbai has consistently ranked among the cleanest cities in India, and maintaining high sanitation standards is a key priority for the municipal administration. However, unauthorized dumping of construction and demolition waste has been posing a challenge to the city's cleanliness. To address this, NMMC has been closely monitoring such activities and taking strict action against violators,” informed an official.

Residents  are asked to report about  illegal debris dumping and adhere to the prescribed methods for waste disposal while  construction firms and contractors  have been informed to use authorized dumping sites and follow municipal guidelines to avoid hefty fines.
