Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a series of crackdown against betting racket, crime branch police busted two betting dens that were being run in old city areas of Shahjehanabad and Tila Jamalpura on Saturday. Cash, mobile phones, betting slips were seized from them, police officials said.

Additional police commissioner Mukhtar Qureshi said crime branch team under TI Ashok Maravi received a tip off about one Sanjay Rai who was betting on one day cricket match between England and India. Police team raided Sanjay’s home near Purani Adalat in Shahjehanabad. Police team entered Sanjay’s house and found four mobile phones on a table, a register, pens.

One day cricket match was being displayed on one of the mobile phones while the other phone was continuously ringing. During questioning, Sanjay said one of the mobile phones contains mobile numbers of his clients. The other iphone was used for keeping ID of betting in which the booking rates were available. A register was used for keeping records of transactions worth several lakh and Rs 1,500 were found at the spot. Sanjay confessed to booking for betting on one day cricket match. Sanjay has eight cases of Gambling Act registered against him at Shahjehanabad police station.

In another raid, crime branch team raided a house in Tila Jamalpura area and arrested three persons identified as Zuber Khan (32), Asgar Ansari (32) and Shahbaz Khan (27). Eight betting slips, three pens, a cardboard and cash Rs 23,000 was recovered from them. Questioning from them revealed that they used to do odd jobs for living but took to running betting racket for earning quick money. The accused were running betting racket on cards and numbers.
