New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to make its comeback in Delhi after almost three decades. The counting for the 2025 Delhi Assembly election began at 8:00 AM on Saturday. As per the Election Commission (EC) trends, the party is leading in 48 out of the 70 assembly seats.

The Narendra Modi-led party is yet to announce its CM candidate. Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned as Delhi CM last year, aimed to reclaim the position. However, he lost the New Delhi constituency against BJP's Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma by 4,089 votes.

As per Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, the CM will be decided by the party's central leadership. Here are three potential key contenders who could withhold the position:

Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma

Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma contested from the New Delhi constituency.

Former MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma contested from the New Delhi constituency against former AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Verma secured the seat by defeating Kejriwal with 4,089 votes. According to the EC, Verma secured 30,088 votes.

Verma is the son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma. He pursued an MBA at the Fore School of Management and commenced his political career in 2013 after securing victory in the Delhi Legislative Assembly from the Mehrauli constituency.

He also won the West Delhi parliamentary seat in 2014, followed by a thumping re-election victory in 2019. Ahead of the Delhi Assembly election, he initiated a campaign called "Remove Kejriwal, Save the Nation", criticising the AAP administration for making false promises.

Verma's uncle Azad Singh also served as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor.

Vijender Gupta

BJP's Vijender Gupta contested the elections from

BJP leader Vijendra Gupta was contesting from Rohini, against AAP's Pradeep Mittal and Congress's Sumesh Gupta. He secured his third consecutive win in the constituency by securing 70,365 votes.

Gupta, a prominent figure in the Delhi Assembly since 2015, previously served as the Leader of the Opposition. He is also an alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce and the former vice president of Delhi University Students Union.

Gupta began his political career in 1980 and was elected as a Municipal Corporation of Delhi Councilor in 1997. Gupta also served as the BJP Delhi Secretary.

Harish Khurana

Harish Khurana contested from the Moti Nagar constituency.

The BJP candidate made his electoral debut from Moti Nagar in the 2025 Delhi Assembly election. As per EC, Harish Khurana won the seat by 57,565 votes, leading with 11,657 votes.

Khurana is the son of former Delhi CM and senior BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana. He attended the DAV Public School in Sahibabad and graduated from Delhi University's Ramjas College. He was involved in politics during his college years as a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Currently a secretary in the BJP's Delhi unit, Khurana has held various roles, including former convenor of the public relations cell and spokesperson for the BJP in Delhi.

Moti Nagar is a legacy seat for Khurana. His father represented the constituency for two terms in 1993 and 2003.

In addition, former Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay, Dalit leader Dushyant Gautam, and BJP candidate Majinder Singh Sirsa are also among the potential key contenders for the CM's post.
