Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane starrer Sanam Teri Kasam has re-released, and the film has taken the box office by storm. On the day 1 of its re-released the movie has collected approx. Rs. 4.50 crore which is quite good, and it has beaten new releases like Loveyapa and Badass Ravi Kumar on day 1. Did you expect that the re-release would get such an amazing response?
Actors are not logical people. I don’t fall for logical explanations. Actors are mostly logic less dreamers and dream anyways is logic less. So, I screamed and I started requesting my producer without any logic that please re-release, and 7th (February) was the logic less date because so many films were releasing. So, as an actor, I am allowed to be a dreamer. So, not expectations, but I had a gut feeling.
You recently went to theatres and fans started crying after seeing you, and they came and hugged you. So, how was that feeling to see such a reaction?
It is a very soothing feeling. This makes you believe in what Shah Rukh Khan sir said (in Om Shanti Om), ‘Agar sab thik na ho toh woh the end nahi, picture abhi baaki hai mere dost’. I could resonate with that dialogue after nine years of trying and failing and still trying again. So, it is a like a soothing ointment and justifies what dialogue Farah ma’am had in the film.
Sanam Teri Kasam has done better than the new releases like Badass Ravi Kumar and Loveyapa. So, what do you have to say about it?
I just got a call from my producer’s office and I got to know that it has got good numbers. I don’t have much knowledge about numbers, but this movie was made on a budget of Rs. 14 crore, and it has covered one third of its budget one day one, so it is a special thing for the trade. Honestly, many people have asked me what is your dream role and I have been answering that my dream role is to be a producer’s profitable actor.
Have you spoken to Mawra about the response the re-release is getting? She got married recently, so are you touch with her?
I won’t lie to you, when the film initially didn’t perform; I lost touch with directors, producer, and actors. I had signed this film on a gut feeling, I begged the directors to cast me because they had already cast someone else. So, I realised one has to keep fighting throughout his life. From casting to doing to the film to breaking my heart with the response to again fight for years for a re-release, I realised that nothing is going to be smoothed ever. So, I actually lost touch with the whole team.
Sanam Teri Kasam 2 has been announced so when will the shooting start; is there any update on that?
I always use this analogy that to eat the food in a house for a hungry child, it needs two things; one, the father has to earn money and buy vegetables, and two, the mother has to cook the food. So, I compare this scenario to filmmaking, where the father is the producer who brings in the resources and the mother is the director who has a good script, and I am the hungry child who wants to eat and be a part of this dinner or lunch. Now, the marriage has to happen between father and mother, and when that happens I will be more eager than the fans to start shooting for part 2.
Now, after Sanam Teri Kasam re-release getting such a good response, the audience will surely be excited for Sanam Teri Kasam 2 as well.
