Mira-Bhayandar: With the arrest of four men, the central crime unit (CCU) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police claim to have busted a Uttarakhand -based Bol-Bachchan (glib talkers) who robbed people-especially women and senior citizens of their valuables by engaging them in vague conversations.
The gang had targeted a 50-year-old woman by robbing her of her gold chain and earrings in Bhayandar (east) on 2, January. Alarmed by the spurt in similar offences, the case was handed over to the CCU for conducting parallel investigations and nab the culprits at the earliest.
The CCU led by police inspector- Aviraj Kurhade visited the crime spot and scanned footage captured by closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the vicinity and possible getaway routes. Investigations revealed the involvement of a Uttarakhand based gang.
On the virtue of electronic surveillance, the CCU which learnt that the accused were travelling in a Gujarat-bound train immediately alerted their counterparts in the railway protection force (RPF) who apprehended the quartet after they disembarked at Gandhinagar railway station on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as-Ayub Kalua Hassan (26), Farooq Ali Lohri Shah (34), Naushad Alimuddin Hassan (28) and Jalaluddin Lohri Shah (45)- all natives of various villages in Uttarakhand.
"Apart from recovering stolen gold ornaments worth Rs.14.23 lakh, we have seized two motorcycles (which were used to commit the crimes), cash and four mobile phones from the possession of the quartet who have been booked under section 318 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for deceiving any person, fraudulently or dishonestly induces the person to deliver any property." said police inspector- Aviraj Kurhade.
Further investigations revealed the involvement of the quartet in five similar offences committed by them in Bhayandar, Mulund, Chembur, Kandivali and Ghatkopar.
