Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed his displeasure when the crowd began whistling during the bhumi puja ceremony of the new Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC). He told the audience, "Is this an event where whistling is appropriate? The Chief Minister is present. Stop this behavior immediately, or I will instruct the police to remove you."
At the ceremony, Pawar also criticized the rise in street crimes in Pune, including the vandalism of vehicles. He urged the police to take strict action, saying that anti-social elements should be charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) and paraded in public to show the strength of the law.
Rising crime in city
Pawar highlighted recent incidents, such as 25 vehicles being vandalized in Bibwewadi and 15 vehicles damaged in Yerawada, and questioned why such crimes were happening. He called on the Pimpri Chinchwad police to ensure these incidents don't happen in their jurisdiction.
The Deputy CM also mentioned that the state government is providing all necessary resources, including new buildings and vehicles, to support the police.
During the event, Pawar also addressed Bhosari BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, criticizing him for not giving credit to him while discussing developmental works in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area. Pawar advised Landge not to be "miserly" in giving due credit where it is deserved.
