The grandeur and allure of Mahabharat's Draupathi is all set to be showcased through a theatrical show in Tamil. Chennai renowned theatre group – Komal theatre along with the Vashi Fine Arts society (VFAS) will be hosting the play in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
The drama will be held at Vishnudas Bhave auditorium in Vashi on February 23.
“This is the first time that the play is going to be performed in Navi Mumbai. The theatre group is well known in Chennai, its founder is Tamil Theatre Legend Komal Swaminathan who has dedicated his life to Tamil Theatre. The production about the Draupadhi will be presented in poetic form,” said the secretary of VFAS, Mohana Iyer.
Komal Theatre has staged 9 productions including Social, Family and Historical contents and during the lockdown Produced 16 short films, two documentaries to engage the artist and technicians working from home. The Theatre aims to bring classical dramas into the mainstream public. “ This theatre group is an extension of the 1970’s theatre group - STAGE FRIENDS and it is known for its quality drama production in Tamil language,” said
The play showcases how a woman in Dvapara Yuga has faced many challenges and won over all of them with poise and dignity and established Dharma in this world and stands as an inspiration to the current generation women.
The play is based on popular mythological television shows like Vyasa Bharatham, novel -Villi Bharatham and Mahakavi Bharathiyar’s epic poem Paanjaali Sabatham . The background music is given by Raj Kumar Bharathi (Great-grandson of Mahakavi Bharathiyar)
“Draupathi, is the main female protagonist of the epic Mahabharata - a multi-talented, intelligent woman with an unbending will and the proud heroine of the epic Mahabharata! Draupadi was born from fire – in a YAGNA organized by King Durupada , King of Panchala. She is noted for her beauty, courage. With her natural ingenuity and artistic talents she embodies women with mettle,” said Mohana.
The play will run for 1 hour 50 minutes and will be conducted from 11 am onwards. A Mega Theatrical Production about the Indian Epic Woman of Mahabharata - Presented in a poetic form comprising all art forms Music, Dance and Drama.
