Ghaziabad, February 06: In a shocking incident, BJP MLA registered his protest in a unique way in Ghaziabad's Loni. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar sat on the roadside selling vegetables. He did this to protest against the Ghaziabad police’s decision to shut down weekly markets. The argument between the police and the MLA was caught on camera and the video of the incident is doing rounds on social media. It can be seen in the video that MLA Gurjar is accusing the police of shutting the market to defame BJP in the recently held Delhi Assembly Elections 2025.
Why Was the Protest Held?
MLA Gurjar said that more than one lakh people in Loni depend on weekly markets for their livelihood. He criticized the police’s decision, calling it a "Tughlaki farmaan" (a term used to describe an unreasonable or harsh decision).

Gurjar said, "Loni mein ek lakh se zyada logon ki rozi-roti saptahik bazaar se judi hai. Police ka yeh faisla gareebon par sidha prahar hai." (More than one lakh people in Loni depend on weekly markets for their livelihood. This decision by the police is a direct attack on the poor).
He also alleged that this move was taken to harm the BJP ahead of the Delhi elections.
He claimed, "Yeh faisla Delhi chunaav ko dekhte hue BJP ko nuksan pahunchane ke liye liya gaya hai." (This decision has been taken to harm the BJP in view of the Delhi elections).
Police’s Reason for Closing Weekly Markets
The Ghaziabad police explained that these markets create problems for local residents. Markets set up on roads cause traffic jams and create difficulties in medical emergencies. "Saptahik bazaaron se sadkon par bheed badh jaati hai, jis wajah se logon ko dikkat hoti hai. Medical emergency mein bhi pareshaani hoti hai," the police stated.
To solve this issue, the police suggested that traders should use vacant spaces instead of blocking roads. "Vyapari khaali jagahon par bazaar laga sakte hain, taki aam janta ko koi dikkat na ho," the police added.
MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar’s Response
MLA Gurjar opposed the decision and questioned the law and order situation in the district. He argued that shutting down these markets directly affects poor people’s livelihoods.
"Yeh faisla gareeb logon ki rozi-roti cheenne jaisa hai. Sarkar ko unke guzar-basar ka bhi sochna chahiye," he said. (This decision is like snatching away the livelihoods of poor people. The government should also think about their survival.)
To highlight his protest, he sat on the roadside like a common vendor, weighed vegetables and sold them while announcing the prices to customers.
"Agar saptahik bazaar lagana galat hai, to phir aaj se main bhi ek sabzi wala hoon," said Gurjar while selling vegetables. (If setting up a weekly market is wrong, then from today, I am also a vegetable vendor.)
His unique protest caught the attention of people and sparked a debate about the impact of shutting down weekly markets.
