Kerala, February 5: In an impressive act of bravery, a 56-year-old woman climbed down a 40-foot deep well in Ernakulam district's Piravom town to rescue her 64-year old husband Rameshan, who had accidentally fallen into it.
According to reports, Rameshan, a retired police officer, had climbed a pepper tree in his backyard to pluck peppercorns. he lost his balance when a branch broke, causing him to eventually fall into a nearby well. The well was approximately filled with five feet of water at the bottom.

Rameshan's wife Padmam sprang quickly into action as she witnessed the accident. She tossed a plastic rope into the well to assist her husband in climbing up. However, when she noticed her husband was facing difficulties in pulling himself up, she instructed her relatives to call the fire brigade and courageously jumped inside the well to save him from drowning.
Padmam managed to lean against the well's wall with her husband until the fire brigade personnel from Piravom Nilayam arrived on the site. The couple was rescued with the help of nets and ropes and were immediately rushed to the hospital with minor injuries.
Several social media users hailed Padmam's quick-thinking and courageous act. One of the users wrote, "Wow! Heroes don't always wear capes, sometimes they wear salwaar suits!!!"
"Yes, even Indian females can do any thing, what man can. Husbands must be equally caring for wives," wrote another user on X.
