The Maha Kumbh, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, will see a spectacular lineup of cultural performances starting February 7. The event, held in Prayagraj, is known for its spiritual significance, attracting millions of devotees, saints, and tourists from across the globe. For Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh Culture Department has planned a series of grand artistic presentations to showcase India’s rich heritage at the Ganga Pandal.

Music and dance on opening day

February 7 will mark the commencement of these cultural events, featuring renowned Odissi dancer Dona Ganguly. She is the wife of former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly and a celebrated artist in her own right. Alongside her performance, audiences will also witness Sufi singers Yogesh Gandharv and Abha Gandharv, a classical music recital by Karnataka’s Suma Sudhindra, and a Rasleela presentation by Dr. Devkinandan Sharma from Mathura.

A night of melodious tunes on February 8

Playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy will take the stage on February 8, accompanied by the mesmerizing violin performance of Dr. L Subramaniam. The evening will also feature a Manipuri dance recital by Preeti Patel from Kolkata, a Sarod performance by Narendra Nath from West Bengal, and another Rasleela act by Dr. Devkinandan Sharma.

February 9 will continue the artistic grandeur with a performance by acclaimed singer Suresh Wadkar, who will present Sugam Sangeet. Audiences will also witness Hindustani classical music by Padma Shri awardee Madhup Mudgal from Delhi. Adding to the evening’s splendor will be an Odissi dance recital by veteran artist Sonal Mansingh, while Dr. Devkinandan Sharma will enchant devotees once again with his Rasleela performance.

A grand finale

The final day of performances on February 10 will be a musical delight, featuring a Sugam Sangeet recital by the legendary Hariharan. The evening will also include an Odissi dance performance by Mumbai-based Shubhda Varadkar and a Carnatic music presentation by Sudha from Tamil Nadu.

In observance of the sacred Magh Purnima Snan, which takes place on February 12, all cultural performances will be suspended from February 11 to 13. This ritual holds deep religious significance, as thousands of devotees take a holy dip in the Ganges, believing it washes away sins and brings spiritual purification.
