Mumbai: The body of Sunil Pachhar (23), who had been missing for two days, has been identified. His family suspects foul play behind his death. The Colaba Police have registered a case of accidental death (ADR) and initiated an investigation. Sunil had been employed on a cargo ship since November 2024.
According to the Colaba Police, Sunil, originally from Rajasthan, had been missing from his ship since February 3. A missing person complaint was filed at the Yellow Gate Police Station on the morning of February 4. On February 5, around 1:30 PM, his body was recovered near Sassoon Dock.
In his statement to the police, Debashish Mondal, the Master In-Charge of the cargo ship, provided key details. He informed the authorities that on February 3, Sunil and another seaman had been resting on the driving deck. The other seaman had gone to make tea, and during that time, Sunil allegedly woke up and may have accidentally fallen overboard while urinating.
However, raising suspicion, Sunil’s cousin, Ramesh Moond, told FPJ that Sunil, a resident of Shikhar, Rajasthan, had had an argument over a girlfriend with a fellow seaman named Sachin. Ramesh claims that Sunil went missing following this dispute.
After the recovery of Sunil’s body, it was sent to St. George Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
