The Mumbai Unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an executive engineer of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), a private contractor and a rickshaw driver in a bribery case.
The accused persons have been identified as MHADA's executive engineer Dinesh Shrestha, private contractor Sanjay Trivedi and rickshaw driver Rajkumar Yadav.
According to the ACB, the complainant's uncle had transferred his hut in the complainant's name by an award deed. The said hutment was proposed under slum rehabilitation and some official work related to the said hutment was pending with the MHADA office. The complainant also learnt that ten other slum dwellers known to him had applications pending with MHADA.
The complainant went to Shrestha's office on 27/01/2025 to follow up the pending work of his and other slum dwellers, where Shrestha allegedly demanded to clear all the pending work for Rs 60000 each applicant. Shrestha had asked the complainant to hand over Rs 2 lakh to Sanjay Trivedi as advance.
As the complainant did not want to pay a bribe to the public servant, on 04/02/2025 he visited the ACB office and lodged a complaint in the matter. A trap was laid and once Yadav took Rs 60000 bribe money from the complainant and handed it over to rickshaw driver Yadav, the duo were apprehended by the ACB officials. Later Shrestha was also nabbed.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused public servant and other private individuals.
