History Of Eradicating FGM
In 1997, the World Health Organization, along with UNICEF and UNFPA, released a joint declaration opposing female genital mutilation. In 2012, the General Assembly of the United Nations approved the resolution to eradicate female genital mutilation. Annually, February 6 is recognized as International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation to raise awareness about the issues women encounter because of this procedure and actions we can implement to eradicate this violent practice.
