Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a government employee posted in the office of the tehsildar in Birsinghpur, Satna district, for accepting a bribe of ₹4,000, officials said on Wednesday.

According to Director General of EOW, Upendra Jain, the complainant, Neelesh Lodhi, a resident of Ujjaini, had applied for the distribution of his ancestral land in September last year.

Rajesh Tripathi, who worked as a reader in the tehsildar's office, was responsible for processing the land mutation. However, he allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 to complete the procedure.

After receiving the complaint, the EOW Rewa conducted a preliminary verification and found merit in the allegations. A trap team was then formed to catch the accused.

During the course of the investigation, Tripathi eventually agreed to accept ₹4,000 instead of the initially demanded ₹5,000.

On Wednesday, as soon as the complainant handed over the money to Tripathi at the tehsildar’s office in Birsinghpur, the EOW team caught him red-handed. He was taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
