Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT, has been at the centre of the AI frenzy, given the role his company has played in the AI revolution.

Sam Altman In India

Altman is in India, and while speaking in the country, he spoke about India's potential to grow in the AI sector and said, "India is a very important market for AI. It is our second biggest market."

Furthermore, he also said that India is a crucial market for OpenAI & should be a leader in the AI revolution.

Altman did however, caution that costs may increase, but that would result in a surge of economic & scientific value.

Altman also met India's IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav. It was here, that Altman addressed his previous remarks on India's apparent inability to make inroads into the world of AI.

Correcting his remarks and explaining himself, Sam Altman said, "My comments on India being able to make or not being able to make LLMs were taken out of context."

Altman is reportedly also set to meet PM Modi.

He further added, "India is a very important market for AI. It is our second biggest market. We are now in a world where we have made incredible progress with distillation. Models are still not cheap, but they are doable. India should be a leader there of course."

OpenAI's Recent Exploits

One of Elon Musk's biggest rivals, Sam Altman, recently also entered a deal with Japan's SoftBank and Larry Ellison-led Oracle, along with a UAE-based company, to explore expansion of AI infrastructure in India. This deal was endorsed by US President Donald Trump.

In addition, OpenAI was again in the news, when it got a shock wave from China's DeepSeek.

DeepSeek is an AI chatbot that exhibited immense capabilities, with relatively small resources, including fewer advanced chips and relatively lesser data, compared to its American rival, ChatGPT.

Sam Altman doubled down on his and his company's (OpenAI) case, as he promised to increase the competitiveness of his company and the products that they release.
