San Antonio Spurs' rising star Victor Wembanyama has secured his first-ever selection to the NBA All-Star team, marking a significant milestone in his young career. The 21-year-old center is among six players making their All-Star debuts as reserves.

Despite missing out on a starting role behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Wembanyama was an undeniable choice for the reserves. He will be joined by other first-time All-Stars, including Alperen Sengun and Jalen Williams, at the highly anticipated NBA All-Star Game in San Francisco on February 16.

Victor Wembanyama's performance in current season

Following his 2023-24 Rookie of the Year triumph, Wembanyama has continued his meteoric rise in his second season. Averaging 24.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, and nearly 4 blocks per game, he has firmly established himself as one of the league’s most dominant young players. With 150 blocks so far, he leads the NBA, maintaining an incredible streak of 34 consecutive games with at least one block and a three-pointer.

Wembanyama also holds the distinction of being the only player in NBA history to record multiple seasons with 150+ blocks, 100+ assists, and 100+ three-pointers. His record-breaking performances further solidify his status as one of basketball’s most promising talents.

New All-Star Game Format

For the first time, the NBA All-Star Game will feature a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. Two teams will meet in one semifinal (Game 1), and the remaining two teams will meet in the other semifinal (Game 2). The winning teams from Game 1 and Game 2 will advance to face each other in the championship (Game 3).

For each game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points. The fourth team will be the winning team from the championship game of the Castrol Rising Stars, the annual showcase of top first- and second-year NBA players and NBA G League standouts, which will be played on Feb. 14
