Australian Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 in a major blow to the two-time winners ahead of the eight-team event. The lower back issue of the seam-bowling all-rounder he is also highly doubtful for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), beginning on March 21.

The 32-year-old's fitness has been a talking point for sometime now, evidenced by bowling minimal overs during the home Test series against India. Due to Marsh's declining returns with the bat, the West Australian also lost his place following the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with the selectors bringing in Beau Webster.

In a statement issued by Cricket Australia, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, they underlined that the decision comes, keeping in mind the need to extend Marsh's career.

"Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men's Champion's Trophy with ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction. The National Selection Panel and Australian men's medical team ruled Marsh out of the tournament with the injury which has not responded sufficiently to rehabilitation. His lower back pain flared in recent weeks leading the NSP to make the longer term decision for Marsh to complete a more extended period of rehabilitation. Marsh will now undergo a period of further rest and rehabilitation as part of his return to play plan. The NSP will meet to decide on a replacement for Marsh in due course."
