Mumbai: To address the serious issue of traffic snarls on the Western Express Highway (WEH), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to work in coordination with other agencies including Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Mumbai Traffic Police and Mumbai Metro.
The authorities will implement measures like the uniformity of footpaths and railings, proper zebra crossing, street lights below flyovers and curtailing unauthorized parking among others to solve the traffic issues on WEH. Since the Mumbai Metro work began, motorists are facing inconvenience and getting stranded in traffic jams on the WEH, especially during peak hours.
The operation and maintenance of the 26 km long WEH connecting Bandra to Dahisar was recently transferred to BMC, which was under the authority of MSRDC earlier. The WEH passes through nine civic wards and coordination at the ward level and other agencies is vital to address the problem of slow-moving traffic and maintenance of the highway, the statement issued by BMC said.
On Thursday, a meeting was held by BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, which was attended by the zonal commissioner, local ward officers and other agencies. Gagrani directed authorities to work on rapid drainage of rainwater along WEH before the monsoon.
