Mumbai team announces 17-member squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir, scheduled for January 23 at the MCA’s BKC Ground.

The team will be led by Ajinkya Rahane, with India captain Rohit Sharma and young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal included in the squad. Notably, Rohit will play a Ranji Trophy match for the first time since 2015, after confirming his availability during a press conference on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma had a disappointing performance in the recent Border-Gavaskar series, managing just 31 runs, and did not play in the fifth Test in Sydney. This led to speculation about his potential Test retirement, but Rohit dismissed the rumors in an interview, stating he has no plans to retire.

India performed poorly in the series, losing 1-3 to Australia, which cost them a spot in the World Test Championship final and the chance to retain the trophy.

Following the series, the BCCI held a review meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and Rohit Sharma, emphasizing the need for senior players to prioritize domestic cricket. Taking this seriously, Rohit has been practicing with the Mumbai Ranji team and was seen training with Rahane at Wankhede Stadium last week.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal had a decent Border-Gavaskar series, scoring 391 runs at an average of 43.44, including one century and two half-centuries. His performance in his debut tour of Australia was impressive, earning his maiden ODI call-up for the Champions Trophy and the ODI series against England.
