In a shocking twist in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, fresh reports claimed that the attacker, identified as Mohammed Shehzad, was a national-level wrestling champion when he resided in Bangladesh. The attacker reportedly entered India illegally from Bangladesh and has been living in Mumbai for the past few months.
Shehzad broke into Saif and Kareena Kapoor Khan's upscale Bandra residence in the wee hours of January 16, and when the Race actor tried to stop him, he attacked him with a knife, stabbed him and fled the scene. One of their house-helps was also injured in the process. The accused had reportedly entered the house with an intention to rob the actors.
After Shehzad was arrested from Thane on January 19, Sunday, he reportedly told the cops that he was a district-level and national-level wrestler in Bangladesh. Cops believe that it was his history as a wrestler that helped him overpower Saif and the others in the house.
Shehzad reportedly travelled across Bandra, Dadar, Worli, Andheri and Thane post the attack, and he eventually decided to stay low in Thane near a labour camp when the cops nabbed him.
It was also revealed during the investigation that Shehzad was involved in another robbery a few months ago when he worked in Worli. He was reportedly accused of stealing a diamond ring, post which he was fired from his job.
He then worked at The Blair All Day restaurant in Thane for two months, and his contract ended in December 2024.
While Shehzad was sent to five-day police custody by a Bandra court on Sunday, his lawyer defended him stating that the Mumbai Police had no proof of the accused being a Bangladeshi national. "They said that he came here 6 months ago, but it is a wrong statement. He has been living here for more than 7 years. His family is in Mumbai too," the lawyer said.
