Delhi: Residents of Delhi experienced foggy weather Saturday morning, affecting both flight and train services. The IMD predicted "extremely thick fog," with temperatures near 11°C. Fog is anticipated to last for three days, and the air quality index has enhanced following recent rains.

Residents of Delhi in certain regions experienced fog on Saturday morning due to ongoing chilly weather, with poor visibility impacting flight and train operations in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted "very dense fog" for Saturday in Delhi, which noted a temperature of about 11 degrees Celsius at 7:30 am.

The day's minimum temperature is anticipated to be 7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to remain near 19 degrees Celsius. As per the weather department's prediction, foggy weather is likely to persist for the next three days, leading to potential "rain or thunderstorms" on January 22 and 23.

Multiple trains proceeding to the national capital and flights at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport were delayed because of fog, according to reports by ANI.

Significantly, the air quality index in Delhi saw improvement on Friday following rainfall, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to lift restrictions imposed under Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). "According to the air quality and weather forecast from IMD/IITM, it is expected that the AQI will stay at the lower end of the Very Poor category in the upcoming days due to favorable meteorological conditions and high wind speeds," stated the CAQM.

In winters, the Delhi-NCR area implements restrictions based on GRAP, which classifies air quality into four levels – Stage 1 (Poor, AQI 201-300), Stage 2 (Very Poor, AQI 301-400), Stage 3 (Severe, AQI 401-450), and Stage 4 (Severe Plus, AQI above 450). The overall AQI of Delhi at about 8 am on Saturday was reported at 248, per the Sameer app that offers hourly updates on the National Air Quality Index.
