In preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has been directed to finalise its global information system (GIS). Nashik Divisional Revenue Commissioner Pravin Gedam emphasised that the system should be up-to-date, user-friendly, and simple to operate.
The Simhastha Kumbh Mela review meeting was held at the Collector's office. A comprehensive review of the development works in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar was presented during the meeting. Gedam stressed the need for modern and well-equipped parking lots and advised the Public Works Department and the NMC to undertake detailed studies and plan accordingly. He also instructed all departments to ensure quality in all development works, including those related to the Kumbh Mela.
To prevent pollution of the Godavari River, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board officials were directed to regularly inspect the riverbed and take action against violators. Gedam assured regular reviews to monitor progress in this regard.
NMC’s Commissioner Manisha Khatri presented an update on the GIS system during the meeting. Gedam suggested improvements, emphasising the creation of a specific procedure for its implementation, involving all departments. He recommended preserving data permanently and incorporating video analysers while installing CCTV systems.
