Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has been invited to be the chief guest at the Republic Day ceremony this year.

The Ministry of External Affairs, in a press release on Thursday, announced that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto would be the chief guest for India's 76th Republic Day.

Prabowo will pay a state visit to India during January 25-26, 2025.

This will mark the Indonesian President's first official visit after assuming office in October 2024.

"India and Indonesia share warm and friendly ties spanning over millennia. As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner, Indonesia is an important pillar in India's Act East Policy and our vision of the Indo-Pacific," said the release. "The forthcoming State Visit of President Prabowo will provide an opportunity for the leaders to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral ties as well as to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest," the External Affairs Ministry said.

Last year, French President Emmanuel Macron graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was invited in 2023.
