Unfortunately, it also opens up opportunities and avenues for fraudster to pry on unsuspecting victims.
According to reports that have recently come to light, cases of fake hotel booking scams in the temple town in Uttar Pradesh are on the rise.
In this, many scamsters deployed counterfeit websites used to book tents, cottages, and hostels at Mahakumbh.
Some of these fraudsters were apprehended from various regions of the country.
Many have already fallen prey to this scam, having paid their money for accommodations and tents, that do not exist.
How To Stay Safe and Clear Of These Frauds
To stay safe and protect yourself and your money from such scams, one needs to follow some very basic steps.
1) Rely on the government's kumbh.gov.in/en/Wheretostaylist. This website will be able to guide you through the available accommodation in the city.
The temple town is reported to have 1,50,000 tents spread across 4,000 hectares of land.
2) In addition, only use official channels for booking hotels or any accommodations.
3) Do not use or visit websites or agents who are not registered and have the official permission to operate during the Maha Kumbh.
4) Check with channels and local authorities about the veracity of the facility, its availability of it, and the booking mediator for a hassle-free experience.
