Kolkata: Another incident of shootout took place in Malda on Tuesday morning that killed a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and left two others critically injured.
The ruling party’s local area president Bakul Seikh and his associate Esaruddin Sheikh, were also hit in the firing and after sustaining serious injuries have been admitted in Malda Medical College and Hospital.
One Zakir Sheikh is being said to be the main accused behind the shooting, but Malda district TMC president Abdur Rahim Bakshi said that he didn’t know anyone called Zakir is in TMC.
The eyewitnesses told police that in the broad day light suddenly some miscreants came and started shooting at Hasan Sheikh, Bakul Sheikh and Esaruddin Sheikh from a close range.
All of three of them were taken to the hospital where Hasan was declared ‘dead’.
A large contingent of local police have been deployed there and even in the CCTV footage the reason for the shootout was not clear.
However, according to the local people the shooting took place due to infighting within the ruling party.
Notably, on January 2, a TMC heavyweight leader Dulal Sarkar was shot dead in Malda due to alleged infighting in TMC. Malda town president and the party’s chief for the Hindi cell in the entire district Narendranath Tiwari was identified as the ‘mastermind’ behind killing Dulal Sarkar.
