Mumbai: The BMC has issued a stop-work notice to the developer at new link road, in Andheri West due to severe dust pollution caused by an ongoing building demolition. The demolition was found to be proceeding without adhering to the required pollution control measures, which prompted immediate action from the civic body.
The notice follows a social media post by the Andheri Lokhandwala Residents' Association, which shared a video documenting the extent of the dust pollution in the area. Local residents had reported disturbances from excessive dust, loud noise, and vibrations, which were negatively impacting the peaceful environment of the neighborhood.
After receiving the complaints, BMC officials conducted an inspection and confirmed that proper air pollution control measures, such as dust suppression systems, were not being implemented at the site.
As a result, the BMC has ordered an immediate halt to demolition activities at this location. The notice issued to the developer also warns that legal action will be taken if work resumes without adhering to necessary regulations.
In addition, the BMC has requested the assistance of local police to remove all workers from the site to ensure strict compliance with the order, emphasising its commitment to maintaining both environmental standards and the well-being of local residents.
