Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has informed the Mumbai team management of his plans to attend the Ranji Trophy practice session scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Wankhede Stadium.
Sharma has resumed training at the MCA-BKC ground as part of his preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
The Mumbai team is gearing up for a center-wicket practice session ahead of their next Ranji Trophy league match against Jammu & Kashmir, set to be played in Mumbai.
According to a sources said by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Sharma has not yet confirmed his availability for the match and is still deliberating whether to participate.
“He will be attending the practice sessions with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team, but a decision on whether he will play the next game against J&K is still pending.
He will inform the MCA in due course,” the source said. Notably, Sharma's last appearance for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy was in 2015, against Uttar Pradesh. While the BCCI has encouraged its contracted players to participate in domestic cricket, it has not made it mandatory.
Rohit Sharma's performance in BGT 2024
Rohit Sharma has had a tough time recently with the bat. During India’s 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) tour of Australia, he managed scores of just 3, 9, 10, 3, and 6 across four Test matches, averaging a disappointing 10.93. This form slump led him to step down from captaincy for the final Test in Sydney.
