Elon Musk foray into politics has been quick and widespread. Barely a few years ago, Musk was known for being socially liberal and economically conservative. Now, Musk, the South African-born billionaire with a net worth of over USD 420 billion, by all means is a far-right political activist.
Elon Musk Continues His Bravado
In the past year, he started with his support for Donald Trump. Thereafter, post Trump's victory in November, Musk has thrown his weight behind every alt-right, far-right party around, especially in Europe.
The latest post on X has underscored just the same. In a post on his platform, that he bought for USD 44 billion, Musk reacted to the news of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz being nominated for the role of Chancellor in the upcoming German Federal elections.
Reacting to the post, Musk said, "Make
Europe
Great
Again
MEGA!!!
This, for the uninitiated, is the spin on the Make America Great Again or MAGA slogan, that was brought back to popularity and has been used excessively by Donald Trump in his political career since 2016.
MEGA is symbol of what Musk is looking to achieve in Europe.
In the recent past, Elon Musk's focus has been excessive on the old continent. In the bargain of supporting far-right fringe outfits, he has also taken on existing establishments and governments. This list includes the United Kingdom and Germany.
He has consistently attached UK Labour (a centre-left party) PM Keir Starmer. He has also unleashed himself against German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the SPD party. Musk has even called him an 'idiot'.
Musk's Powerful Friend
Musk has been emboldened by the fact his new 'friend' Donald Trump will be the US president, which is arguably, one of the most powerful position in the 21st century.
Whether Musk's incendiary rhetoric and open calls for coups against democratically elected governments will result in any diplomatic fallout is something that remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, his fortune, along with Tesla's prospects, has only blossomed. Musk's personal fortune is over USD 400 billion. His company, the EV maker Tesla is estimated to be worth USD 1.267 trillion.
The German Federal elections are slated to happen in February 2025.
