Thane: The Anti-Narcotics cell of Thane police have seized 467 bottles of a banned cough syrup containing codeine and arrested two man, an official said on Sunday.
The police said that two people for allegedly illegal possessing of 467 cough syrup containing codeine bottles worth Rs 77,777 in Bhiwandi on Friday, which is banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
The arrested individuals have been identified as Naushad Ansari Ahmad Shaikh, 45, a resident of Vanjarpatti Naka in Bhiwandi, and Mohammad Tauquir Fatuque Ansari, 24, a resident of the Naigaon area in Bhiwandi.
According to the police, a case was filed by Prashant Rane, a police constable from the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Thane, on Friday. An official from the Anti-Narcotics Cell received information that two men would come to Kongaon to sell cough syrup that they had kept, consisting of 467 illegal banned cough syrups of 100 ml each. They formed a team, nabbed them, and found that they had kept it for sale and profit.
After the raid, the team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell filed a complaint against them under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. An investigation into the matter has been initiated to determine the extent of their involvement in the illegal trade.
Netaram Maske, a senior police inspector from Kongaon Police, said, "The narcotic cell of Thane police arrested them and produced them in court, where they were remanded in police custody for further investigation."
