According to family members, it appears he accidentally shot himself, sustaining a fatal head injury," said DCP Jaskaran Singh Teja.
Who Was Gurpreet Gogi?
Gogi joined AAP in 2022 and gained recognition by defeating two-time MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu during the Punjab Assembly elections. He was known for his approachable demeanour and focus on grassroots issues and played a vital role in his constituency's development.
Born in Ludhiana, Gogi built his political reputation through a deep connection with his constituency. His wife, Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, also entered politics, contesting the Municipal Corporation elections, though she lost to Congress candidate Inderjit Singh Indi.
Gogi was committed to improving public infrastructure and addressing local issues. One of his notable projects was the Buddha Nullah cleanup. He had actively worked to advance this environmental initiative, meeting with Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and MP Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal to ensure progress. Gogi was vocal about delays in the project, and in 2024, he even dismantled the foundation stone he had laid in 2022 to protest the lack of action.
On the day of his tragic death, Gogi attended a cleanliness drive for Buddha Nullah and visited the Prachin Sheetla Mata Mandir. At the temple, he assured devotees of action against a recent burglary involving stolen silver.
