Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A band of burglars barged into a house in State Bank Colony under Kotwali police station in Lalitpur and made off with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. A 62-year-old resident of the State Bank colony lodged a complaint at the police station on January 3 that thieves escaped with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees during his absence from the house.
The thieves reached the first floor of the house with the help of a sari which was kept for drying. The cops began an inquiry into the case and arrested one of the thieves and recovered stolen ornaments from his possession.
Dinesh Vajpayee complained to the police that he was away from home with family members, and when he returned on January 2, he found a sari hanging from the first floor of his house.
But the main gate of the house was locked. He suspected that something may have gone wrong. When he went upstairs he found the cupboards open and jewellery missing. All household items were lying on the floor.
The thieves escaped with a necklace, two gold bangles, a nose pin, two bracelets, a finger ring fitted with topaz, ten fingerings, five chains, ten earrings, a diamond ring, and other items worth over Rs 10 lakh, Vajpayee said.
Superintendent of police Sampat Upadhyay set up a team, and when they sifted through the CCTV footage, the team members found two persons. On the basis of CCTV footage, the police identified a man Kishan Kushwaha and arrested him. When the police quizzed Kushwaha, he mentioned the name of his accomplice Sumit Dahiya.
The stolen jewellery were put in a bag and buried under the earth in Kachhiyana Mohalla under Panagar police station. On the basis of information provided by Kushwaha, the police recovered jewellery worth Rs 8.40 lakh.
The rest of the items, a motorcycle used in the crime and rest of the jewellery are with Dahiya, the police said, adding that they are searching for Dahiya. Fourteen cases of crime were registered against Kushwaha in different police stations.
