Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat Indore gave a memorandum to Indore police commissioner against Chinese Manjha on Friday.
Members said many accidents have happened in the past years due to nylon (China) Manjha string used for kite flying, leading to loss of life along with harm to birds.
If action is taken from the beginning of the festival this year, loss of life and injuries could be prevented, they said. The organisation’s publicity chief Manoj Panwar blamed some selfish traders for hiding the manjh and selling it on the sly.
They also use small children and women in this trade. This type of manjha was sold secretly last year also in Kachhi Mohalla, Sadar Bazar, Harsiddhi, Malganj Chandan Nagar, Khajrana, Jinsi and other places in the city.
The Panchayat demands from the government that strict punitive action should be taken against vendors who sell the Chinese manjha so that no untoward incident takes place in the city and a public awareness campaign should be run on the upcoming festival.
