Mumbai: In a tragic incident at Chirag Nagar, Machhi Market in Ghatkopar, a speeding tempo ran over 5-6 people, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to five others. The injured individuals were rushed to a nearby Rajawadi hospital for treatment. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident, said an official from the Ghatkopar Police.

The tragic accident occurred around 6:30 PM near Azad Masala Shop on Machhi Market Road, Chirag Nagar in Ghatkopar, when a Tata mini tempo (registration number MH 05 EL 1951) lost control of the steering and ran over pedestrians. The driver, identified as Uttam Baban Kharat (25), reportedly lost control, leading to the accident.

The victims of the incident are as follows: Preeti Ritesh Patel (30) was brought dead. Reshma Shaikh (28) sustained a left tibia fracture and is currently admitted to the Female Observation Ward (FOW). Mahrufa Shaikh (28) suffered blunt trauma to the chest and is admitted to the Female Surgical Ward (FSW). Taufa Shaikh (38) sustained a cut lacerated wound (CLW) on the upper lip, but refused admission and was treated on an outpatient basis (OPD). Arbaz Shaikh (23) suffered blunt trauma to the left lower limb and is admitted to the Male Surgical Ward (MSW). Moharam Shaikh (28) sustained blunt trauma to the left shoulder and foot and is admitted to the Male Observation Ward (MOW).

All the injured are residents of Chirag Nagar, Parsiwadi, Machhi Market, Ghatkopar West. They sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment.

According to the police, Tofa Shaikh has been discharged after receiving treatment, while the other injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital. They are suffering from fractures and chest and leg injuries. The injured are currently undergoing further treatment at Rajawadi Hospital. The tempo driver and the vehicle have been detained by the Ghatkopar police, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
