The University of Delhi (DU) is set to introduce a PhD program in Hindu Studies starting from the upcoming academic year. The proposal, put forth by the Governing Body of the Centre for Hindu Studies, aims to offer students enhanced academic opportunities in this field.

Interested and eligible candidates can find detailed information about the course on the official university website. The eligibility criteria for admission are in line with DU’s general PhD admission guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Hindu Studies with a minimum of 55% marks, along with a JRF/NET qualification. Additionally, applicants must pass the university’s PhD eligibility test. Relaxation in eligibility will be provided for students from reserved categories, as outlined in the official PhD brochure.

The program will initially offer 10 seats, including those for reserved and supernumerary categories. The number of seats may increase in future based on academic demand.

Prerna Malhotra, Joint Director of the Centre for Hindu Studies, shared with PTI, “Our Governing Board has recommended starting a PhD in Hindu Studies, which will soon be presented to the Academic Council. Many students, particularly those with JRF and NET qualifications, have expressed interest in research opportunities. As a leading institution, Delhi University is dedicated to fostering such opportunities and advancing research in various aspects of Hindu Studies.”

The Centre for Hindu Studies, established in 2023 with a focus on Brahmanical texts, began its first MA batch in November 2023.
