In a move aimed at enhancing passenger experience and improving the state transport infrastructure, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to relaunch the 'Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Swachh Sundar Bus Stand' campaign.
The initiative was announced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik during his visit to the Panvel and Khopoli bus depot on Thursday.
The campaign focuses on revamping bus stands across Maharashtra, emphasizing cleanliness, improved amenities, and better operational efficiency. Minister Sarnaik inspected the facilities at both locations and interacted with passengers to gather feedback on their travel experiences.
Sarnaik also traveled from Panvel to Khopoli in an MSRTC bus, engaging with passengers to understand their concerns. During the trip, he interacted with passengers, including college students, senior citizens, and daily commuters.
They raised issues such as the need for additional bus services, cleanliness, and better vehicle maintenance.
Sarnaik directed the official concerned to resolve the issues and assured passengers that new buses would soon be introduced on routes like Panvel-Khopoli, Panvel-Alibaug, and Panvel-Kalyan. “Providing clean, well-maintained bus stands with pleasant restroom facilities is a fundamental duty of MSRTC,” said Sarnaik.
The campaign will focus on providing clean bus stands, functional restrooms, improved drinking water facilities, and better reservation counters. Relaxation areas for drivers, conductors, and technical staff will also be established.
Sarnaik issued strict instructions to local administrators for the immediate repair and maintenance of existing facilities, reprimanding them for their poor upkeep.
To enhance operational efficiency, the minister directed officials to remove abandoned scrap vehicles from bus stand premises. These measures aim to provide a more pleasant and seamless experience for passengers while reflecting MSRTC's broader vision of modernizing state transport services.
“This initiative marks a significant step in ensuring that MSRTC sets new benchmarks in passenger satisfaction and reliability,” added Sarnaik.
