Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal District Court rejected anticipatory bail plea filed by former RTO constable Saurabh Sharma on Thursday.
Sharma, accused of money laundering, filed the petition through his lawyer Rakesh Parashar. The hearing was scheduled to be held on Friday, but the lawyer requested the court to hear the case on Thursday.
During the hearing, Saurabh Sharma's lawyer mentioned that his client is not a public servant, and thus does not come in the ambit of Lokayukta. Terming the Lokayukta raids as invalid, he called for Sharma’s anticipatory bail.
He further added that his client has no connection with the 52kg gold and Rs 11 crore cash found in the abandoned car in Bhopal jungle a few days ago.
However, the judge rejected the plea and considered him as a public servant.
Lokayukta raided Saurabh Sharma's premises
Notably, Lokayukta raided Saurabh Sharma's premises a week ago. The Lokayukta recovered Rs 2.95 crore in cash, silver bars, gold and silver jewellery and property documents.
Also, 52 kg gold and Rs 11 crore cash were recovered from a car in the forest of Mendori in Bhopal which claimed to be of Saurabh's friend Chetan Singh. Following this, the Lokayukta made a connection between the two and considered it might belong to Saurabh.
Moreover, ED has also registered a case against Saurabh.
