Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The capital city witnessed severe traffic congestion on Christmas Day and commuters faced problems due to insufficient police deployment in key areas to manage rush.

On Christmas Day, a large number of traffic movements were seen, mostly in major market hubs like the 10 No Market area, Board Office Square, DB Mall Square and New Market area. The traffic rush increased after 3 pm and this led to significant delays.

A 1 kilometre-long traffic jam was also reported between Pragati Petrol Pump Square and DB Mall Square and only six traffic police officers were deployed to manage heavy movements of vehicles in this area, drawing criticism from commuters who were stuck for hours.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic (DCP) Vikram Raghuwanshi told Free Press that the department had deployed all 600 traffic personnel across the city. The officers were stationed primarily in market areas and places with Christmas celebrations. However, no additional forces were assigned to deal with the holiday rush.

Inadequate police deployment raised concerns about the city's traffic management capabilities during festive season, with many residents and commuters calling for better planning and increased manpower in high-traffic zones.
