Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Situation remained tense but under control as heavy police force remained deployed at Old Galla Mandi area of Jehangirabad where violence was witnessed between members of two different communities on Tuesday morning.

Two persons involved in the violence and brick batting have been arrested while efforts were underway to trace others, police officials said. It is worth mentioning that a group of people from Sardar Mohalla assaulted residents of Galla Mandi area on Tuesday morning resulting in injuries to around six persons including a woman. The incident is reported to be fallout of an incident of road rage which took place on Sunday.

A resident of Sardar Mohalla was injured in the incident on Sunday following which an FIR was registered against five people. Police arrested three of the accused while two of them were at large.

On Tuesday, a group of around 40 people armed with swords, sticks and knives claimed seeing the two accused and assaulted locals at Old Galla Mandi.

The complainant in the case, Mohd Shahwar said that the armed men assaulted him, his mother and other persons. They damaged vehicles and pelted stones on homes.

An FIR was lodged against 13 named and some unidentified persons including a woman in connection with the violence. On Wednesday morning police teams raided Sardar Mohalla and other localities in search of the accused.

ACP Jehangirabad Surabhi Meena said two of the accused identified as Ajje Singh and Betab Singh have been arrested and search was on for their accomplices. The situation in the area is under control of police, she added.

Meanwhile, locals claimed that one of the accused Hukum Singh has past criminal record including a case of arms smuggling against him. It was Hukum Singh who incited other residents of Sardar Mohalla for the violence, they added.
