Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sparked a social media debate on Wednesday after referencing Shah Rukh Khan's film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (DDLJ) while sharing photos of Majuli Island's yellow flower fields.

The Chief Minister posted two images showing fields of yellow flowers reminiscent of the iconic scenes from DDLJ, writing, "Reminiscent of the cult classic DDLJ? Well in Assam we are empowering all our daughters to जी ले अपनी जिंदगी (live life on their own terms)."

Shortly after his post, social media users were quick to recall his January 2023 statement where he had claimed he "didn't know much about Shah Rukh Khan."

Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair shared screenshots of the CM's previous statement alongside the new tweet, commenting, "People who didn't know Shahrukh Khan are remembering the dialogues of 'cult classic' DDLJ."

The post triggered mixed reactions on social media. While one user pointed out the "Hypocrisy" saying, "He didn't knew Shahrukh but knew DDLJ," others defended the Chief Minister. Some supporters humorously noted, "He has known him since 23rd Jan 2023. Today is the 25th of December 2024."

The incident has reignited discussions about the CM's previous stance on Shah Rukh Khan and highlighted the evolving nature of political statements on social media.
