Actress Jaya Bhattacharya, best known for her role in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, rescued a 1.5-month-old puppy over the weekend from the Naigaon suburb of Mumbai. She revealed that the puppy was brutally raped by a man, and despite registering an FIR, the culprit was spared by the cops.
In a video, Jaya can be seen cradling the puppy in her arms. She revealed that the 1.5-month-old puppy was repeatedly raped in the Tivari Gaon area of Naigaon. "We filed an FIR, cops caught the man, but he was later released on bail. Now we are waiting and wondering how do we get justice for this puppy," she said.
She went on to say, "This is not just about this puppy, but about all those creatures and even children who are only a few months old, who cannot express their pain, who cannot defend themselves. We demand justice, and we want it soon, before the country runs into shambles."
Jaya reportedly rescued the dog, who was in a critical condition, and made sure it got proper treatment and care. As her video went viral, actress Shibani Dandekar too extended a helping hand.
"I would like to help find him a safe loving home," Shibani commented under the video, to which Jaya replied, "The baby is under our care. Not fit physically yet."
For those unversed, Jaya is part of a dog rescue NGO which looks after strays and ensures them proper care and shelter.
On the work front, she has been a part of number of daily soaps, including Thapki Pyaar Ki, Gangaa, Imlie, Madhubala, Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap, Hatim, Virasaat, among others.
