Former Bengal Ranji Trophy player Suvojit Banerjee tragically passed away on Monday aged 39 due to cardiac arrest, sending shock waves across the fraternity. Banerjee's death has also brought into focus of how youngsters are suddenly dying, especially due to cardiac arrest. Former Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla mourned his death.

The veteran cricketer made his debut for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture against Odisha in 2014 and featured in three Ranji Trophy games as well. As per family forces, Banerjee, who was still playing local cricket, took a nap after breakfast in the morning in his residence in Solapur. With the 39-year-old not responding to calls from his parents a few hours later, they called a doctor, who pronounced him dead.

"He was a teammate and a charming lad. His performance in domestic cricket caught everyone's notice at that time and his selection in the Bengal team was on the expected lines," Shukla said, as quoted by The Times of India.
