Mumbai: The Cuffe Parade police have arrested a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered Mumbai 34 years ago via the donkey route. The accused, Moin Hayat Badshah Shaikh, hails from Chittagong, Bangladesh.

About The Case

According to the police, Shaikh entered India illegally at the age of 17 and has travelled between India and Bangladesh multiple times since. The Anti-Terrorist Cell received information about him, which followed Shaikh’s arrest in south Bombay. Investigations revealed that he possesses an Indian voter ID, which he used to cast votes in both Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

The police recovered several documents from Shaikh, including an Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, and a driving license. Shaikh, who first arrived in Mumbai in 1990, initially started teaching Urdu and the Quran to children in areas like Mumbra, Kurla, Govandi, and Parel. However, he does not possess a passport. Shaikh also owns a house in Ambedkar Nagar, Cuffe Parade, where he lives with his family and his son is working abroad. He last visited Bangladesh in 2021. He worked as a cleaner in a hotel and used to teach children in an adjoining hall.

During interrogation, Shaikh disclosed that he sent money to his friend in Bangladesh, who converted the amount into Bangladeshi Taka. To travel to Bangladesh, Shaikh would first take a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata and then reach Chittagong with the help of an agent.
