Nashik: Maharashtra's newly appointed Fisheries Minister, Nitesh Rane, faced public outrage on Monday night due to the steep fall in onion prices over the past few days. The incident occurred during an event in Chirai village, located in Baglan Taluka of Nashik, where Rane was addressing a gathering. As he began his speech, a farmer unexpectedly approached him and placed a garland made of onions around his neck.

The farmer attempted to express his grievances over the microphone but was quickly detained by the police present at the venue. It was later revealed that the individual was an onion farmer, voicing his frustration over the plummeting prices that have severely affected local farmers.

Despite the disruption, Minister Rane maintained his composure and refrained from opposing the farmer’s actions. He urged the authorities to allow the farmer to speak, stating, "Let him be heard; we will address his concerns." However, before the farmer could fully articulate his issues, he was removed from the stage by the police.

The unexpected incident has sparked discussions, especially considering the police presence at the event. Many have expressed surprise at how such an event unfolded despite the tight security arrangements.

Meanwhile during the recent Assembly Session in Nagpur, the issue of Hindutva became a major point of contention. A heated exchange took place between BJP Minister Nitesh Rane and Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi.

Abu Azmi’s Criticism

Abu Azmi criticised provocative remarks, stating, “Some say they will enter mosques and attack. Why? What wrong have we done? You claim you won’t let me read the Quran or use loudspeakers. Mr. Speaker, this country is built on love between Hindus and Muslims. Our culture teaches us unity, Hindus wish Muslims during Eid and Muslims celebrate festivals like Diwali and Holi with Hindus. This is the essence of India”.

Nitesh Rane’s Sharp Response

Responding to Azmi, Nitesh Rane said, “There is nothing wrong in speaking about brotherhood, as Mr. Azmi mentioned. However, he is presenting misleading information and ignoring the other side. Who attacks Ganesh Chaturthi processions? Who vandalizes our temples? If he had given these lectures on brotherhood to those issuing fatwas earlier, we wouldn’t be having this discussion now. Mr. Speaker, let him speak, I am a Minister now and have no objection over it. But he must stick to facts. The people of Maharashtra know the real situation.”
