Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A man allegedly strangulated his wife with a wire and later committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Lasudia police station area on Monday afternoon. The incident came to the fore after their specially-abled daughter informed landlord that her mother was not responding.

According to police, the deceased were identified as Lakshman Kulkarni and Mani Kulkarni, residents of Khategaon and were staying on rent at Phoenix Township where the incident occurred. Lakshman suspected Mani of infidelity, which often led to arguments between them.

After the murder, Lakshman went about half a kilometer away from the house to a railway track and committed suicide. Family members said that there was a dispute between the couple, after which Lakshman killed Mani and then jumped in front of a passenger train. At the time of the incident, their children, a specially-abled daughter and a son, were playing outside.

Specially-abled daughter informs landlord

Lakshman and Mani had a son and a daughter who is a specially-abled child. After killing his wife, Lakshman fled from the house. When the children returned home after playing outside, they tried to wake their mother, but there was no response. After repeated attempts failed, the children went to the landlord and said, "Mother isn t responding." The landlord then went upstairs to the room and found the woman unconscious. He immediately informed the police.

Brought wife back home on Saturday

The family members said that Lakshman worked as a labourer in a company. He had brought his wife back home only on Saturday. During Diwali, the couple had gone to the village with their children, where they had a dispute. Following the dispute, Mani refused to return with him. Lakshman brought her back two days prior to the incident, and after another quarrel, he killed her.
