Mira Bhayandar: The 22nd edition of the Gyan Manthan festival-2024 was hosted by the Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Mira Road last week. Themed as “Conservation of the Panchajanya”- five elements of nature to achieve sustainability, the two-day long festival featured a total of 33 academic and co-curricular events along with 17 entrepreneurial stalls and two free vocational guidance kiosks.
More than 2,000 students from around 80 colleges in and around Mumbai including the host registered their active participation in the festival. From nature photography, accounting quiz and mock stock to geometric designs, powerpoint presentations, singing, poster making and folk fiesta, the festival witnessed a vibrant culmination of student centric activities aimed at fostering a holistic all-round development of the student community.
This apart from an interesting line up of several fun events including-ring of fate, BattleGrounds Mobile India (BGMI), rush to crush, treasure hunt, code debugging, squid royale, cultural maze, film and book reviews.
The institution was founded in 1989 by Prof. A.E Lakdawala who said, "I am very proud of my students, teachers and staffers who dedicatedly worked to ensure the success of the festival. I also thank the participants.”
“The name of the festival aptly reveals its distinct nature as Gyan is knowledge and Manthan means to churn. We are proud to be part of the visionary endeavour and dream project of Prof. Lakdawala Sir with a noble aspiration of imparting quality education with a focus on discipline.” said college principal- Dr. Kalpana Jain.
An intercollegiate carrom competition for the teaching staff and stall setup for budding young student-entrepreneurs was also organised in the festival. Notably, the Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce has bagged several achievements including- “A” grade position bestowed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in August 2019, Green Champion Award by Govt. India's Ministry of Education (MoE) for the year 2021, adjudged as the Best College (2021-22) by the Mumbai University in the urban area category. The college received Autonomy status in the year 2024-25.
