As per reports, rescue efforts by the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been ongoing for over 17 hours to locate those buried under the debris.
The deceased have been identified as Drishti Verma from Theog and Abhishek from Haryana’s Ambala. Verma was pulled out alive last night but succumbed to her injuries at Sohana Hospital. Abhishek’s body was recovered from the rubble this morning.
Preliminary investigations revealed that unauthorised excavation work was being conducted on an adjacent plot, which likely weakened the foundation of the collapsed building.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is closely monitoring the situation and has pledged strict action against those responsible. In a social media post, he expressed his condolences and urged citizens to cooperate with rescue operations.
"Sad news has been received that a multistorey building near Sohana in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) has collapsed. The entire administration and other rescue teams have been deployed at the spot. I am in constant touch with the administration," he wrote.
Rescue operations are expected to continue as authorities race against time to locate and save those trapped beneath the wreckage.
