In an effort to address the growing challenge of diabetes, South Western Railway (SWR) conducted a comprehensive awareness and medical check-up program today i.e 15.11.2024 across all its Divisions and Branches, marking World Diabetes Day. The initiative aimed to educate employees on diabetes prevention, management, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

At Hubballi Division, the program was led by Dr. Ramakrishna Mane, Chief Medical Superintendent, in collaboration with Saurabh Singh Lodhi, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer, Diesel Loco Shed, Hubballi. Special guests Dr. Kashavva (Asha), Assistant Professor, Preventive & Social Medicine, KLE Medical College, and Dr. Shivayogi, Senior Health Consultant, participated in the event, which featured free medical check-ups, including blood glucose testing. Attendees were also engaged in educational sessions on the importance of diet, exercise, and regular health monitoring.

Dr. Mane emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to combat diabetes, advocating for accessible and affordable healthcare for all. He called for a united effort to ensure that high-quality diabetes care is available to everyone. Dr. Shivayogi highlighted the critical role of a healthy diet and physical activity in preventing and managing diabetes, noting the rise in cases due to poor lifestyle choices.

The event saw a significant turnout, with around 100 employees from all departments of railway actively participating in health check-ups and awareness sessions. Newly diagnosed cases were given medical advice for further treatment. Similar activities were held at various health units across South Western Railway, demonstrating SWR's commitment to promoting health and well-being among its workforce.
