Under the able leadership of Praful Patel, Administrator of Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the 4th Tribal Pride Day was celebrated in a grand manner in Daman district on 15 November 2024 at Birsa Munda Chowk, Jhari, Moti Daman. This special event was dedicated to the great heritage of the tribal community and their glorious history.
On this occasion, Daman-Diu MP Umesh Patel, Municipality Chief Aspi Damaniya, District Panchayat Deputy Chief Babu Patel, local public representatives, and prominent members of the tribal community paid tribute by lighting lamps and offering flowers to Lord Birsa Munda. In the program, Birsa Munda's struggle, his contribution in the freedom struggle and his important role in the upliftment of the tribal society were remembered. During this, all the guests also listened to the address of the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi through live broadcast. Along with this, various cultural programs were also organized to showcase tribal culture, art, and traditions.
This occasion of Bhagwan Birsa Munda's 150th birth anniversary and the fourth Tribal Pride Day provides us an opportunity to remember his immortal spirit and his contribution to our society. Bhagwan Birsa Munda with his indomitable courage, determination and selfless service raised his voice against injustice and organized the tribal communities and fought for their rights.
Under PM Janman and "Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan", along with the promotion of schemes at village level, block level and district level, all the identified villages Kadaiya, Bhimpor, Varkund, Somnath, Magarwada, Damanwada, Pariyari will be covered in a fortnightly manner from November 15, 2024.A special Gram Sabha was organized at 10 am today. On the occasion of Tribal Pride Day, free health checkup camps were organized at various prominent places. Sports, essay, debate, quiz, painting, language and awareness rally will also be organized among the students of the schools.
This event will also give strength to the cause of upliftment of the local tribal community and preserving their cultural identity. People from Daman and nearby areas participated in this event in large numbers and took inspiration from the thoughts of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
It is noteworthy that the Government of India will organize Tribal Pride Fortnight from 15 November to 26 November in which various types of programs will be organized. It includes many programs including tribal wall art, essay writing, street plays, visit to tribal museum, cultural programs.
